Science Education

Professional Sequence

Becoming a science teacher is basically a two-step process. Part 1 is completing your content-area major. Part 2 is completing the Professional Sequence in teacher education, sometimes called the “licensure core.” This too is a process, as indicated by the word “sequence” in the title. You should start what is called Level I during your sophomore year, being careful to pay attention to the course prerequisites. Some portions of the Professional Sequence are prerequisites for science methods courses. See the diagram for the full picture.
