Requirements for Teaching Approval in Secondary School Science

To be recommended by UNI for approval for a science teaching endorsement in a given subject area (secondary, 5-12, teaching license), a student must complete a teaching major or minor in that subject area. The requirements for the teaching areas in science are listed below.

Science content courses that count for endorsement must be courses that count towards science departmental majors/minors.

Biology

A biology teaching major including:

  • SCI ED 3300 (Orientation to Science Teaching)

  • SCI ED 3200 (Current Technologies in Science Teaching)

  • BIOL 4193 (Methods for Teaching Life Sciences)

  • BIOL 3197 (Undergraduate Practicum in Biology Teaching)

A biology teaching minor including:

  • SCI ED 3300 (Orientation to Science Teaching)

  • SCI ED 3200 (Current Technologies in Science Teaching)

  • BIOL 4193 (Methods for Teaching Life Sciences

A science teaching major  with 30 hours in the broad area of science

    Chemistry
